Karen Gorback. Ph.D

Karen Gorback is a prize-winning author of numerous short stories and memoirs. She has also written several one-act plays selected for production at a Southern California theater festival. Her novel Freshman Mom tells the story of a single parent who goes back to college to build a better life for herself and her family. The book won the USA Regional Excellence Book Award in its category for the Western Region and was a finalist in the Readers’ Favorite Book Awards.

Karen has a doctorate in education and has worked as an English teacher, adult education counselor, and community college administrator. Karen believes that literature is most engaging when it both entertains and provides a platform for learning. She is a past president of the Ventura County Writers Club, a past board member of the San Fernando Valley Branch of the California Writers Club, and an active member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
